The Los Angeles Premier Futbol Club’s (LAPFC) Girls Under 13 Gold soccer team is bringing the Coast Soccer League Cup home to Pasadena after defeating an immensely talented Laverne Lazers 2-1.
After a challenging regular season where scoring was at a premium, LAPFC Girls U13 Gold team caught fire at the right time--defeating the top teams in Southern California to win the CSL League Cup Championship on Saturday, December 8. Led by Coach John Slater, the LAPFC girls showcased their stout defense by not surrendering any goals in five games of regulation play. Not to be outdone, the offense scored nine goals during the tournament. LAPFC secured a trip to the League Cup finals in dramatic fashion the previous week by winning their semi-final game on penalty kicks. They displayed gutsy resilience in the finals—taking the Lazers into overtime (OT) after ending regulation tied up 0-0. LAPFC scored a goal in the first OT, but the Lazers put the ball in the back of the net in the second OT forcing the game to be decided by penalty kicks (PK). The LAPFC girls were cool under pressure as they matched the Lazers through nine rounds of PK before emerging the victor, 8-7. Congratulations to Coach Slater and the GU13 Gold Team!
