What is the DPL?

A Hybrid Program for the Elite Player

* Development Player League Website: www.DPLeague.org

The commitment and expectations placed on the Girls Academy players will be high and in some cases a stretch too far, irregardless of the ability of the player.

We have collaborated with other SoCal Clubs that have identified a need to bridge the gap between club soccer and Academy soccer for the 2017 season and beyond. The following clubs have committed to forming the "Development Player League" (DP League) that will give maximum flexibility to the clubs while placing player development, exposure and value for money in the forefront of our planning:

  • Albion SC
  • Beach FC
  • Del Sol (AZ)
  • Eagles SC
  • LA Galaxy San Diego
  • LA Galaxy
  • LA Premier FC
  • Legends FC
  • OC Surf
  • Pateadores
  • Real So Cal
  • Utah Royals (AZ)

DPL Pilot Only:

  • San Digo Surf

This Hybrid Program is designed for the Elite, Ultra-Competitive player that has the ability to play Academy soccer but for whatever reason may not be ready to make the full commitmtent OR for the player that aspires to play at the academy level but needs more time in a competitive environment, above the club level, to refine their skills or mature physically before making the step up to a full-time Academy player.

The DPL player will effectively be an option to be a Developmental Player in the eyes of US Soccer and will be able to participate in outside competition and High School, while still being eligible to play a maximum of (6) full Academy games and can be promoted into the Academy squad at any time (*At that point they would have to stop all outside compeition).

More details include:

  • They will follow the schedule of the DA level and will attempt to play on the same weekend vs the same opponent when possible to maximize exposure and opportunities to be seen at the Academy Level.
  • The teams will train (3) times per week vs. the (4) mandatory sessions at the DA Level.
  • DPL players will be eligible to play High School Soccer and participate in Outside Competition.
  • The teams will receive Sports Performance Training  and will have access to the sports performance staff of the Full Academy Teams.

The Development Player League Teams will also compete in the major college showcases locally and regionally, saving the parents money and creating a need for College Coaches to travel to us rather than chase the college coaches around the country. Quality local games inside some local and regional showcases will be the recipe for success throughout the year.

LA Premier will host DPL teams in the following age groups: G2006, G2005, G2004, G2003, G2003 PILOT, G2002 and G2000/01. Seven (7) teams total at this level.
